Empowering Girls Through Sanitary Pad Provision:

A Community Debate Initiative

On May 25, 2025, the Young Flowers Community Network partnered with Naguru Go Down to host a community debate in one of Kampala’s slums. The event focused on supporting girls’ health and education through sanitary pad provision.
Many girls in underserved communities lack access to affordable sanitary pads, leading to school absenteeism and hindering their educational opportunities. This issue disproportionately affects girls from low-income families, impacting their self-esteem and overall well-being.

Our initiative provided free sanitary pads to female attendees, ensuring they could participate fully in the event without worrying about menstrual hygiene. We also distributed educational materials on menstrual hygiene management.
The initiative aimed to:

– Improve attendance and participation of girls at the community debate
– Increase awareness of menstrual hygiene management
– Enhance self-esteem and confidence among female attendees
– Contribute to breaking the stigma surrounding menstruation

We thank Naguru Mr. Daniel Comboni for his support. We seek continued support to empower girls and promote their health, education, and overall well-being.

By providing sanitary pads and promoting menstrual hygiene management, we can empower girls to participate fully in community discussions and pursue their aspirations. Together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for girls in underserved communities.
